In the United States, it costs about $40,000 in tuition to go to a private college, $23,000 to go to an out-of-state public college, and $10,000 for an in-state public college as of 2022-2023. This number is only increasing, with 'Bankrate' stating that tuition costs increase by about $500 a year after accounting for inflation. Whether you are studying for your undergraduate degree at a college or paying fees at high school, there are many ways for you to increase your income, whether it’s to make a quick buck or invest your time into a more steady flow of cash.

Tutoring

Are you someone who excels at a specific subject? If so, this is a great business opportunity. You can get paid for tutoring people who are struggling in subjects you take or have taken, and charge a good hourly pay. This is especially true if you have scored high on the SAT, ACT, or other standardized tests, as many people are willing to pay higher hourly wages for such tutoring.

Even if you do not have a specific subject you are confident to teach in, you can also provide tutoring services for younger youth, which is much easier to plan for and often contains content that you are sure to know.

Neighborhood Jobs

A common yet effective way to make some extra cash is by doing various neighborhood jobs, such as walking dogs, mowing lawns, and washing cars. Many neighborhoods have Facebook groups dedicated to the local area, often where many people put up job listings for neighborhood work. You can also ask your neighbors for any paid labor you can do.

Captioning

Most of the time, content creators are hiring people to help caption their videos. You can also go on websites such as Fiverr and commission yourself. If you are fluent in another language, you can often charge more for captioning, especially if you are able to translate sentences based on regional dialects.

Start an online business

Starting online businesses doesn't always have to be time-consuming. While you can definitely invest your time into selling handmade products, such as crocheted plushies or personalized bracelets, you can also commission yourself to do custom graphic design services or photography. Many companies and business owners are looking for people who can create new designs and logos to use, as well as people who can take professional-esque pictures of products.

Create content (w/ads)

If you are someone who already owns a blog or social media account with a decent following, you can start considering advertisement revenue. While income varies depending on what platform you create content with, many companies will pay you to advertise themselves on your page.

Sell old items

If you are looking to make a quick buck and make some much-needed space, consider selling old and unneeded items. You can either make a listing online (platforms include Depop, Poshmark, and EBay) or sell your items in person in an event such as a yard sale.

Become an editor for short-form videos

With the rise of short-form content, such as TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Instagram Reels, many existing content creators are looking for video editors. If you have experience in editing videos or using editing softwares, this is a great way to take advantage of a growing system and make a good income.

Reception work

Working at the front desk of a hotel, library, school, or office affords you the time to work while at work! You can get homework done in between phone calls or study while awaiting the next guest.
